Girl goes from the bottom of degradation to the top of society.
Is there any girl that hasn´t heard anything about Cinderella?
Maybe there is, but if I ever meet her, I´d probably throw her on face that she had no infance.
People all over the world feel attracted to this enchanting story for different reasons.
The first reason may be Prince Charming (you know you want him!). Then, growing up, we find out the truth about man ;) and the waiting for this handsome, intelligent, elegant, perfect-in-every-single-way gentleman gets too long. As the song "When You Were Young" (The Killers) best describes:
"You sit there in your heartache
Waiting on some beautiful boy to
save you from your old ways
You play forgiveness
Watch it now ... here he comes!
He doesn't look a thing like Jesus
But he talks like a gentleman
Like you imagined when you were young"
Nowadays, it is socially unaceptable, not to say antifeministic, to wait for a man to solve all your problems. So we end up marrying the kind of guy we swore we would never marry: average.
Even when we face this, Cinderella is still very appealing to us. It is symbol of any remanescent of innocent childhood left on us. And I say "innocent" because, even when she is pretty and sweet, Cinderella usually acts in stupid and submissive ways that fill me with feminist rage and horror. She is not the kind of heroine that I would like to be, I´d rather prefer to be a Rory Gilmore or a Maddy Bowen (from "Blood Diamond"), admirable women, strong fighters that have achieve everything they have in life.
Still Cinderella rocks!
This movie is a classic and I love everything on it: the music, the dresses (though I don´t really like the Ball dress), the scenery and the house is just beautiful!
